The hardwood exports from the US to China increased year-on-year, by 4.8%, reaching $520 million between January and April 2016.

The fast growing real-estate and eco-friendly building materials market were among the main reason behind this growth, according to China Daily.

''Rising wages in China have created an exploding middle class, and new, additional demand for US hardwood products'' said John Chan, regional director for Southeast Asia and China of the American Hardwood Export Council.

The US hardwood products exported to China in China reached approximately $1 billion, doubling year-on-year since 2011. Also, due to the recently talks from China and the Us regarding the curbing of carbon emissions, the US hardwood market will have continued demand from China.

The Chinese furniture and building industries will be positively influenced by the forest expansion in the US, as the Chinese depend on stable raw materials source. The AHEC, which represents more than 100 hardwood companies in the US has a regional branch in Hong Kong for business in China and Southeast Asia. The markets in the region have accounted for 53% ($621 million) of the hardwood exports from the US during January and April 2016. Only China got 44% of this amount.

As reported by China Daily, new technologies, such as cross-laminated timber or thermally modified timber have begun to open more uses for US hardwoods in the construction and exterior markets in both China and the US.
